Super Plasticizer Additive
Waterproofing Agent with Retarding Properties
What is Microsilica Retarder Gel?
Microsilica Retarder Gel is a well-established product based on carboxylate-based superplasticizers, silica fume, fillers, and concrete retarding additives. This material increases the slump of concrete due to the presence of a powerful superplasticizer based on polycarboxylate ether, which significantly reduces the water-cement ratio and ultimately increases the compressive strength of the concrete. This additive is used to produce high-performance and versatile concrete during mixing and will enhance the rheological properties of the fresh concrete as well as the hardened concrete. Microsilica Retarder Gel works by compressing the concrete mass and filling the voids between the aggregates, which reduces the permeability of the hardened concrete. Additionally, the retarding agents in the formulation slow down the setting time and reduce the hydration reaction rate. The use of this product also results in a reduction in the amount of cement used, reducing the water-to-cement ratio by approximately 10-15%.
Overall, this is an advanced, reinforced additive used in concrete. It helps create an impermeable surface and is suitable for concrete exposed to freeze-thaw cycles and chemical-resistant applications.
How Does Microsilica Retarder Gel Work?
The silica fume in the formulation of Microsilica Retarder Gel is a powerful pozzolanic material that can effectively replace cement and functions similarly to cement. Silica fume reacts with water and calcium hydroxide, resulting in the formation of calcium silicate hydrate, which plays a significant role in the hardening process and the increase of concrete strength. Additionally, the polycarboxylate ether in the formulation, which acts as a superplasticizer, forms a layer on the cement particles and prevents them from agglomerating. The electrostatic repulsion between particles, induced by the absorbed polymer layers, keeps the cement particles dispersed, thus improving the workability of the concrete. The polypropylene fibers in the formulation also contribute to enhancing the mechanical and abrasion properties of the concrete. Moreover, the retarding agents in the formulation allow for better control over the setting time.

Consumption Rate of Microsilica Retarder Gel
The consumption rate of Microsilica Retarder Gel is determined through laboratory studies and depends on the climatic conditions and the types of materials used. Generally, the recommended amount is 5 to 7 percent of the cement weight. For achieving high compressive strength and high-performance concrete, it is advised to reduce 10-15% of the mixing water before adding the retarder gel.
How to Use Microsilica Retarder Gel
This product can be added to concrete in two ways:
- Mix the product with all or part of the mixing water and then add it to the dry ingredients for blending.
- Alternatively, it can be added to the mix after all components have been combined.
Safety Considerations for Microsilica Retarder Gel
