Concrete Curing
CU150
Surface Coating for Concrete to Prevent Water Evaporation
Concrete surface curing agent forms a thin layer on the concrete surface after pouring, reflecting a major portion of sunlight and preventing rapid evaporation of water in the concrete, thus maintaining the optimal temperature of the surface. This curing agent is one of the key factors in enhancing the final quality of concrete. Proper curing conditions are crucial for the proper hydration and strength development of the concrete, directly affecting its strength and durability.
Curing is an essential process after concrete pouring and mold removal, ensuring that the concrete remains in the right conditions for hydration to take place. If curing is not done correctly, the water required for the hydration process evaporates too quickly, resulting in weak concrete with surface and internal cracks. This is especially problematic in hot climates. The process involves creating a cover that helps develop the concrete’s properties in its hardened state. Essentially, curing maintains moisture and temperature for the cement mixture so the hydration process occurs correctly.
The Concrete Curing product helps keep concrete in the right conditions to reach its ultimate strength and durability. Proper curing is one of the critical stages in construction that impacts the long-term performance and quality of the structure.
Mechanism of Action
The curing agent creates a thin, non-oily layer on the surface, which helps reflect sunlight and prevents the temperature of the concrete from rising. This action prevents the evaporation of water in the concrete mixture, supporting the hydration process and eliminating the need for water spraying after pouring.
Properties and Effects
- Reduces the evaporation rate of water in the concrete by forming a thin layer.
- No need for continuous water spraying or keeping the surface moist.
- Helps retain mixing water for the hydration process.
- Prevents cracking caused by rapid evaporation.
- Reduces the permeability of the concrete surface.
- Prevents surface peeling.
- Prevents surface temperature from rising.
- Reflects a significant amount of sunlight without altering the color of the concrete surfaces.
Applications
- Ideal for use in windy areas or places with high air flow.
- Suitable for use in hot and dry climates.
- Effective for large areas like airport runways and open canals where spraying is difficult.
- Can be used where water spraying and maintaining wet surfaces is not feasible.
- Works well in areas under direct and intense sunlight.
Physical and Chemical Properties
- State: Liquid
- Color: Colorless
- Specific Gravity: 1.4 gr/cm³
- Chloride Ion: None
- pH: Around 7
- Solubility: Water-soluble
Consumption Rate
- Normal Environmental Conditions: 1 kg of curing agent covers 5-6 m².
- Hot Weather Conditions: In hot climates, apply in two layers. 1 kg of curing agent covers 3-4 m². It is recommended to add 20-25% water to the product for the first layer.
Application Method
- Apply the curing agent as soon as the concrete pouring is finished and molds are removed.
- If there’s a delay in application, spray water on the surface to fully saturate it before applying the curing agent.
- In hot climates or for large concrete pours, use thicker layers.
- Apply the second layer within 30 minutes to 1 hour after the first.
- In cooler weather with mild wind, mix 20-30% water with the curing agent before application.
- The curing agent can be applied using spray, brush, or roller.
Safety
- Wear a mask, rubber gloves, and safety glasses while applying the curing agent.
- In case of accidental eye or skin contact, wash with plenty of fresh water.
- If ingested or contacted with the mouth, seek medical attention immediately.
- Do not inhale vapors while spraying.
- This product is non-toxic and does not pose a significant environmental or health risk.
