Ready-Mixed High-Strength Mortar for Concrete Flooring

Fluidity and High Resistance

What is Cement Flooring?
The mix design for flooring mortar or concrete for concrete flooring is a very sensitive and important process, considering the amount of traffic, applied forces, and the type of usage. Concrete flooring for high-traffic and industrial areas, such as public parking lots, factories, and shopping centers, must be designed to withstand high resistance against applied forces while also being cohesive, highly compact, and low in permeability. For this reason, flooring mortar, known as cement flooring mortar, has been formulated and introduced to the market. This flooring can be used instead of regular mortars or concretes and provides special features for flooring. Cement flooring mortar, with its special formulation and aggregate type, creates a smooth and beautiful surface with significantly higher resistance than regular concrete. Additionally, this mortar has desirable fluidity, which reduces the need for floor vibration operations.

Cement flooring mortar is a non-shrinking product with controlled expansion, which eliminates problems such as cracking caused by shrinkage and water loss in concrete. The final resistance of the cement flooring is around 60 to 70 MPa, and it creates a surface that is resistant to various forces. One of the features of ready-mixed cement flooring mortar is the ability to add colored pigments either at the factory or on-site, creating a colored flooring mortar that not only enhances resistance but also provides visual and aesthetic appeal. This product also offers excellent durability against water penetration and environmental degradation.

This cement flooring is a type of surface coating made from resistant and fluid cement mortar, capable of creating smooth, beautiful, and durable surfaces for flooring in high-traffic and industrial environments. It is used in industrial, commercial, and sometimes residential areas.

Mechanism of Action of Cement Flooring Mortar

How does the cement flooring mortar work?

Cement flooring mortar is formulated and produced by mixing cement, specifically graded aggregates, polypropylene fibers, plasticizers, and non-shrinking additives. Each component plays a role in enhancing the performance of the flooring. The graded aggregates ensure uniformity in the mortar, while the plasticizers create the desired fluidity, allowing for reduced water content, which results in increased durability of the floor concrete. The inclusion of polypropylene fibers in the formulation enhances the mechanical strength of the floor concrete. Additionally, the expansion agents in the mortar formulation create controlled expansion, compensating for the destructive effects of shrinkage caused by water loss.

Properties and Effects of Cement Flooring Mortar

What are the properties and effects of cement flooring mortar?

  • Controlled expansion without shrinkage and cracking due to water loss.
  • No dust formation during mixing with water.

Application Method for Cement Flooring Mortar

How should cement flooring mortar be applied?

Surfaces intended for applying cement flooring mortar must be free of dust, grease, and contaminants. If there is any contamination, clean the surface using water pressure (water jet) or sandblasting. If applying cement flooring mortar on absorbent surfaces, they should be pre-wetted until there is no free-standing water on the surface at the time of application. Select a container that can accommodate the required amount of water for mixing with one bag of mortar. Pour about 3 liters of water into the container, and while the mechanical mixer is running, slowly add the mortar powder, continuing the mixing process until a homogeneous mixture is achieved.

Note: Always add the powder to the water and avoid the reverse combination.

If desired, you can use larger mixers to combine powder and water and produce more mortar in each batch. Pour the mixed mortar onto the floor and level it using an electric trowel, screed, or floating trowel. After initial setting, begin curing the concrete surface and keep it moist for at least 48 hours. Cut expansion joints in the concrete after the proper curing time.

Note: Expansion joints can be formed during the mortar pouring process using formwork. Finally, for a smooth and uniform surface, polish the concrete floor.
