Concrete Powder Waterproofing

Powdered Waterproofing Additive Based on Fatty Acids

Hydrophobic Properties

Concrete is naturally porous due to the presence of voids, filler shortages, and fine aggregates, which create empty spaces between aggregates, leading to decreased permeability and quality. Permeable concrete is weak against water penetration and harmful ions, resulting in reduced durability and increased vulnerability. To fill these voids between aggregates, using a waterproofing additive powder is a suitable solution. Concrete Powder Waterproofing is a material based on fatty acids that includes porous fillers and water-repellent substances. Upon reaction with compounds resulting from cement hydration, it flows into the pores and cavities, providing water and moisture resistance. The resistance of concrete to penetration is a key factor in assessing its durability and stability. When concrete is properly mixed with the correct water-to-cement ratio and quality aggregates, its permeability decreases. Adding a controlled amount of Concrete Powder Waterproofing to the mix creates a denser, higher-quality concrete with significantly reduced permeability. Additionally, this waterproofing powder seals the capillary pores of the concrete, ensuring the structure remains waterproof over time.

Concrete Powder Waterproofing is formulated for sealing and is available in both liquid and powder forms. This powdered additive prevents water, chemical solutions, and other destructive agents from penetrating the concrete and also increases the density of the concrete, further reducing its permeability.

Mechanism of Action of Concrete Powder Waterproofing

How does the Concrete Powder Waterproofing work?

The Concrete Powder Waterproofing additive is a micronized hydrophobic filler that, due to its specific physical structure, easily disperses within the concrete mix, filling all the voids between the aggregates. This helps resolve the shortage of fillers and fine aggregates within the mix. Furthermore, it closes the capillary tubes formed by water evaporation in the concrete. As a result, the concrete becomes impermeable and resistant to water, harmful ions, and corrosive chemicals.

Properties and Effects of Concrete Powder Waterproofing

What properties and effects does Concrete Powder Waterproofing create?

  • No negative impact on the compressive strength of the concrete
  • Prevents the penetration of harmful substances into the concrete
  • Closes all voids and porosities caused by the lack of fine aggregates
  • Transfers the water-repellent properties of the additive to the concrete as a filler
  • Prevents the penetration of chemical solutions
  • Due to sealing the capillaries, the structure remains waterproof over time
  • Prevents sulfate attack and alkalinity
  • Creates impermeable and water-resistant concrete
  • Prevents corrosive chemicals and ions from entering the concrete core
  • Easy dispersion of particles in the concrete mix

Applications of Concrete Powder Waterproofing

What are the main applications of Concrete Powder Waterproofing?

  • Suitable for waterproofing tanks and swimming pools
  • Ideal for producing hydrophobic precast concrete components
  • Used for the production of durable and high-quality concrete
  • Suitable for concrete in projects near the sea
  • Suitable for use in salty areas and regions subject to harmful ions and sulfates for waterproofing tanks, dams, and tunnels
  • Produces concrete resistant to chemical solutions
  • Suitable for constructing foundations for marine piers

Physical and Chemical Properties of Concrete Powder Waterproofing:

  • State: Powder

Consumption Rate of Concrete Powder Waterproofing

What is the standard consumption rate of Concrete Powder Waterproofing?

The amount used depends on the thickness of the concrete. Typically, for concrete up to a thickness of 15 cm, approximately 3% of the cement weight is used, and for concrete thicker than 15 cm, 1.5 to 2% of the cement weight is recommended.

Note: Using more than three times the specified amount without a superplasticizer will reduce the concrete’s strength.

How to Use Concrete Powder Waterproofing

How should Concrete Powder Waterproofing be used correctly?

  1. Concrete Powder Waterproofing can be added to the batching or truck mixer during concrete production.
  2. It can be added to the prepared concrete mix, and after thorough mixing, the concrete can be poured.

Note: It is recommended to mix for at least 1 minute for each cubic meter of concrete.

  1. The calculated amount of Concrete Powder Waterproofing should be combined with twice the volume of mixing water and diluted. The diluted additive should be gradually added to the mixing concrete.

Safety of Concrete Powder Waterproofing

What are the safety guidelines for Concrete Powder Waterproofing?

This product is not classified as hazardous or toxic to the environment or humans. However, it may cause skin irritation. In case of skin or eye contact, rinse thoroughly with clean water. Avoid contact with eyes and ingestion.
